Light is meaningful only in relation to darkness, and truth presupposes error. It is these mingled opposites which people our life, which make it pungent, intoxicating. We only exist in terms of this conflict, in the zone where black and white clash. -Louis Aragon

We exist in the million shades of gray that lie on such an extreme spectrum. The colors, black and white, are just the bookends to all the lives sandwiched in between as stories and vessels of exploration and learning. It’s in the gray matter regions of the brain that control your muscles, your sight, hearing, emotions, memory and speech. It may seem dull in color, and lacking any cheer when described, but gray is the symbol that connects everything together and tries to make sense of it all in its own very enigmatic way.

grayEvery moment that has passed has an infinite amount of perspectives on what has taken place. The truth then becomes a complex blend of other truths brought together from all different directions. People say that history books were written and recorded by the victor and that the other sides of the story are lost when the text book finally goes to print. However, being aware of this brings these other voices back into the light.

Remembering to look between the folds of black and white and into the shades of gray not only enlightens you so that you become a more open-minded person but it also makes you better aware of what is really happening in the world. The gray is where we live and exist in our universe, and it is every little mix of everything that has ever been or ever will be in our universe.

  1. “The colors, black and white, are just the bookends to all the lives sandwiched in between as stories and vessels of exploration and learning.” The piece was great but this line was absolutely fantastic! It immediately caught my attention and I actually had to go back over this line a few times because I loved it so much…thought it perfectly captured your point and…wow!
