Endlessly Repeating by Torches

Get Torches’ EP, Endlessly Repeating, here.

What an aptly titled song. I definitely kept this track going on, endlessly repeating after I first heard it. The Indie Rock duo, Azad Cheikosman and Eric Fabbro, of Torches bring their dark pop and tribal grooves to the LA scene with the release of “If The People Stare EP” in May of 2013 and their EP, “Endlessly Repeating” this year.

Their latest EP was engineered by David Newton (who has worked with The Soft Pack, The Mighty Lemon Drops, and Henry Clay People) and Jeff Lipton (who has worked with Arcade Fire, Bon Iver, and Wilco).

So far the group has already headlined a SOLD OUT residency at The Echo. They grabbed the attention of KROQ, Alt 98.7 FM, KCRW, LA Weekly, FILTER Magazine, shared the stage with bands such as Wild Nothing, Atlas Genius, The Drums, PEACE, Maps & Atlases and and have made airtime on MTV’s Catfish and Underemployed.

The Unicorns Opening for Arcade Fire

Get The Unicorns’ latest EP, 2014, here.

So, I went to a concert this weekend in Inglewood at The Forum on Arcade Fire‘s Reflector Tour and was able to see The Unicorns open for the band. They played again the next night and plan on playing Barclays Center August 22 through the 24. The band from Montreal, Canada, who was formed in 2000 and is made up of Nicholas Thorburn (Nick Diamonds), Alden Penner (Alden Ginger), and Jamie Thompson (J’aime Tambeur), has launched a Twitter account, and a Soundcloud page.

The last EP the band put out in 2004, titled 2014, totally makes it seem as though the whole thing was planed this way from the start. During the hiatus Nick Thorburn formed the band Islands, which Jamie Thompson was an on-and-off member of, and worked on other projects such as Mister Heavenly and Human Highway. Alden Penner formed the bands Clues and Hidden Words and released a solo album called, Exegesis.

Here’s a look at the bands first gig back together. (Sorry for the quality)

Also, take a look at some of the band’s other work. Continue reading “The Unicorns Opening for Arcade Fire”

Coachella Recap: Weekend 2

coachella-sunsetFlashing lights, cool sounds and the hot desert. Coachella ended its two-weekend event yesterday with amazing performances from the last line up of artists for the 2014 season, however, it wasn’t all cheers and smiles.

Unfortunately, Chance the Rapper pulled out of his second weekend performance due to being in the hospital for an undisclosed reason, however, Arcade Fire was the one who made the most news by bringing out a fake Daft Punk duo during their set, which sort of upset some people, even if they did close Coachella with a great performance.

Beck was real though.

Here’s a video of Calvin Harris performance of his song, Summer at Coachella last weekend. Continue reading “Coachella Recap: Weekend 2”
