“E” is for Encouragement

There are three rules for writing a novel. Unfortunately, no one knows what they are. -W. Somerset Maugham

After the last line was written and the every word had been reread and looked over twice, I felt a sense of relief. I had finished a book and sent the final manuscript in for the final time for publishing, and yet I felt slightly uneasy about the whole thing. I technically completed one of the tasks on my bucket list and I, God willing, still had many more years of life to live without the thoughts of hoping one day that I could become an author.

All of my experiences as a vegetarian, my person stories, all of the interviews with other people were now all in one place. Anything else pertaining to the subject of vegetarianism that I wanted to share with a large group of anonymous vegetarians, and those interested in vegetarianism came together into a book that I wrote, and that some people are now reading.

However, now as the task on my life’s list has been done, I feel as though this has only encouraged me to go beyond this first published eBook and create new stories to share with people.

Every book is a quotation; and every house is a quotation out of all forests, and mines, and stone quarries; and every man is a quotation from all his ancestors. -Ralph Waldo Emerson

I took my time with this book to pick the brains of some of the vegetarians I knew. I learned about how they lived, why they lived the way they do and how they think about life and our interactions with other beings. For me, my book was an adventurous journey both outward and inward. I was given the chance to step further into the world and what it had to offer, and I was simultaneously able to reflect on my own life and my life choices.

Book CoverThere’s something so therapeutic, and yet exciting about reading or writing books. So much is exchanged between the writer, the reader and the ink that we are able to continue learning beyond the pages.

This book , for me, is only the beginning of my life now as an author. I hope to continue learning about the world and myself through writing and sharing these thoughts with those who would like to listen.

If you would not be forgotten as soon as you are dead, either write something worth reading or do things worth writing. -Benjamin Franklin

If you have a moment, check out the book that took me on a wonderful journey and changed my life here.

  1. Congrats on finishing and publishing the book…it’s gotta be a great feeling! I admit I don’t have the wherewithal to go veg…but I admire the decision…definitely a healthier lifestyle. In looking forward, are you planning to continue with non-fiction or are you going to try your hand at some fiction?

  2. You’ve finished a book and done what many of us hope to do ourselves, that is quite the bit of encouragement for me. Thank you for proving it’s possible. You are an excellent writer.
